Mapping of European plastic waste streams and of European plastic recyclers

The POLREC project is a collaborative project that focuses on sustainable development and recycling of high and low value polymers as a contribution to the objectives of the European Green Deal aiming at zero CO2 emissions in 2050 and to increase the European strategic autonomy on raw materials for polymer production.

During a project period of 3 years the consortium will explore how an intensified cluster and business network collaboration across boarder and across sectors can meet this challenge and exploit the international business opportunities related to this topic.

To handle this challenge, the POLREC partners have drawn up the mapping of European waste streams and Europeans plastic recyclers. This mapping is to be seen as a support tool of the POLREC Innovation Open Call, which can financially support SMEs with an ambition of decreasing the environmental impact of their products. Their practices must be switched from incineration and landfill of polymer waste towards polymer recycling – mechanical as well as chemical. To improve processing of recycled polymers, the open call will finance the implementation of improved moulds and processing aids to support SMEs in switching their practices.

POLREC Project Info Session

Under the scope of the cascade-funding Innovation Open Call of the Project an online session take place on the 14th of September. This info session intended to present the cascade-funding opportunities focused on promoting plastic waste recycling through the access to mechanical recycling, chemical recycling, and digital tools, as well as training on adopting innovative recycling methods, digital processes and specific technical profiles related to polymer recycling.

In this online session we had 41 participants from all over Europe. After the presentation of the Innovation cascade-funding Open Call the participants add the chance to place their questions to the consortium and get some more details.
The session was recorded, and the video is available here:

French Info session

Polymeris organised on the 21st of September a virtual info-session in French to present the POLREC cascade-funding Innovation Open Call to its ecosystem of members, SMEs and recyclers from the plastics, rubbers and composites industries. The webinar was hosted by Roxane Girard, Polymeris’ inter-clustering and European project manager, and gathered 26 participants. Content of the open calls was presented, the application procedure, the eligibility rules, the evaluation criteria and the calendar for applying to the Open Calls. The presentation was followed by a session of questions/answers with the audience. The webinar was recorded and the replay was made available to Polymeris’ members by Wednesday 27, September on the dedicated workspace (Replay-Visionner now Webinaires) on My Polymeris platform.

Portuguese info session

On the 22nd of September CENTIMFE organized a national info session to present the cascade-funding opportunities in the scope of the POLREC project. The webinar was hosted by Tânia Mendes, CENTIMFE’s project coordinator. The session gathered 13 participants who interacted with the aim of clarifying all their questions regarding the funding opportunities on promoting plastic waste recycling through the access to mechanical recycling, chemical recycling, and digital tools, as well as training on adopting innovative recycling methods, digital processes and specific technical profiles related to polymer recycling.
